TMB for you, that was rough...but it's all good, as the kids are fond of saying.

Funny!! Can I get you a towel? Sad when working in a reference to the new movie doesn't get more reaction, huh?

I think our Metal Beastie has a point...it's sort of like the girl in the mini skirt saying "this school should have a stricter dress code"....It would be different if he were using one of the offered avatars. But he (forgive me if I'm wrong on my assumption of gender) went off and found his own avatar and then said "gee...we really shouldn't get to do this".

As I'm sort of a fan of the avatar as art form, I think we should all be free to chose any avatar that complies with the board standards (ie: no naughtiness!). Our avatars are our faces on the board. Star Trek is not a subject embraced by only star ships, star fleet emblems and the like...Star Trek is loved by a broad spectrum of people and our avatars express that.

I fear my earlier post came across as an attack, Odradek. I'm sorry it seemed that way because that wasn't the intention. I shouldn't have used the word hypocrite which has a much more negative and harsh conotation than what I meant to express. And quite frankly I half expected you to post back with something along the lines of "Ah! But Beastie, my avatar is Trek related because that portrait is hanging on the wall of so&so's house in episode #whatever of Star Trek: You Name the Series!".

Anyway, two things:
#2- What's the story behind your previous avatar? Who is that?
and
#1- I didn't mean to be mean. Sorry if I was.

Ay me, Beasty, I don't think that you were mean at all.
To be honest, one could say that I pushed for that kind of reaction.
I admit , I was a littlebit tongue in cheek with it.

For the guy in my former ava, that was in fact the embodiement of hypocrisy named Rufus Griswold.
I hope you won't resent me for handling that matter in an ironic way.

...embodiement of hypocrisy....?? hhhmmm

I let the irony get in the way of the irony.
But no resentment, no way, my friend.

I had to look it up....
Rufs Griswold

The money quote:
Quote:
Griswold considered himself an expert in American poetry and was an early proponent of its inclusion on the school curriculum. He also supported the introduction of copyright legislation, speaking to Congress on behalf of the publishing industry, although he was not above pirating other people's work. A fellow editor remarked, "even while haranguing the loudest, [he] is purloining the fastest"
That's very funny and rather impressive Odradek. I look forward to more contributions from you on this board.

But stay away from the avatars!!!
