I think Amanda died.

But I do wonder if the DVD will feature an expanded cut of the film with this material restored.

She can come back as a "memory" in Trek 12.

As much as I like Ryder, bringing her back as anything but said villan would be beyond campy and a looong stretch.

Now that I've done a bit of iconographic research, I understand that we were supposed to see Ryder without her old-age make-up in a scene that was cut and in which we see her with the new-born Spock. With that scene intact, we wouldn't have expected a happy resolution to her death, the way we do know. I.e. if we weren't meant to see Spock's mother as a young woman, the creators would have, logically, chosen a older actor to play the part... But they chose Ryder and only seeing her in old-age makeup makes little sense. In fact, it leaves us expecting to see her again, either in flashback or possibly in a "rematerializing" scene (thanks to Scotty's and Spoke's expertise in physics), but which never comes. Ergo the possibility of seeing that happen in STXII.......... ?

What do you think ?

I hope she doesn't come back, she served a purpose and now we move on. How is it bizarre that she is old? People grow older and it's reasonable to assume after Spock was born and grew up she too grew older. I didn't expect to see an older woman play the part of his mom. They wanted her in the movie because they liked her or something and made her up for the part. I also don't expect to see her again. I get the jist of her purpose and role in the movie and I'm ready to move on. Spock was born to a mother at her young age and he misses her. We get it.
