Well... yea. Convenient that these guys didnt figure out a planet was missing and they were looking at the wrong one... and Chekhov didnt remember there was a bad dude nearby.

I agree. It is difficult to write a sci-fi story where you are trying to give one character the ability to mover forward in time, but at the same time ignore the easy win solution. If they had made it a rule that you could only exit the Nexus shortly before you entered it, then the whole Kirk helping Picard storyline would NOT have been possible.
