I like Yelchin's Chekov. I liked his accent a lot.

Totally non-canon of course, but I think a few of the old TOS novels had it that Chekov's command of Standard (or English to us) did sometimes falter and either his accent became very thick, or he just simply started talking in Russian without realizing it...

If Chekov really was a genius, he would've re-routed transporter control to his panel on the bridge, instead of getting up to run around the corridors.

I think that Chekov in these new movies will take on a Data like role of being the genius that figures out some very complicated maneuvers like the hiding in Titan's atmosphere and knowing how to transport objects in motion.

You have no idea how happy you made me by saying "Data" and not "Wesley."

As soon as I thought of the concept of Chekov as a prodigy (which is confirmed, by the way, at Memory Alpha), I started to worry that he was going to be treated by some fans like poor Wesley Crusher.

However, Chekov is slightly older than Wesley, and he looks older, too. That must be why most fans haven't made the connection.

Chekov is also FAR less irritating, much more professional, more mature, and is quite adorable. He's actually believable as a bridge officer. Wesley was a freakin' Marty Stu.
