I think the beauty of having a novelization based on a movie is that it always provides a whole bunch of details and often extra characterization or scenes that you can't get from the movie because of time constraints. A novelization is a great companion to a movie and should be enjoyed after the theater experience, IMO. Reading the book beforehand is just setting yourself up for disappointment because there will always be elements that get skimmed over or simply dropped altogether.
