I see your point, but I'll contend, as well, that Star Wars was never about Earth religion, either.

The SF franchise that did deal with Earth religion was and is "V," and, incidentally, for which there is a remake.

Hmmm... interesting. IIRC it was pretty much presented as a possible Vulcan god, not a Christan one (or any other) as well. So it would fall under Vulcan spirituality again. In any case... the end result of the movie is that there is no god. Secular vs religion again. Ok not to that extreme but you get the idea hehe.

But since its a really bad movie I havent seen it in years so I cannot say with much confidence.

Yeah, that should be interesting, I like the way he handled the '4400', though most re-makes turn out to be flops (Example: Bionic Woman).

Remember also that in "Balance of Terror" during the marriage scene, we see, behind Kirk, a grouping of religious symbols. One representing (or seeming to represent) Christianity, and others depicting other religions, suggesting a tolerance and understanding of other faiths, be they earthborne, or alien.

Religion might not be prominent in Trek, but it is at least shown not to discourage it from those who do have a faith.

It's pointed out in expanded commentary in the season one Blu-Ray. I never really noticed it either until it was mentioned in that commentary.
