It is definitely an interesting idea; but one I hope they wouldn't touch too heavily on in any future films, especially at the cost of story.
Think about it though; Nokia and Budwieser survive into the 23rd century, do think TMZ will?
Frightening thought, really.

"It'll be alright. Obi-Wan and Anakin will be there any minute."

Of course, celebrity was something that neither Jedi really relished.

Back to Trek, yeah, I think it would be nice to see the crew celebrated like that in a future movie.

"Do you know who that is, son?"
"Who, daddy?"
"That's James Tiberius Kirk himself."
And the little kid's jaw drops in amazement.
That would be cool! We got to see the DS9 crowd to the same in Trials and Tribble-ations (I think that was the episode name) when they see the Enterprise.

"It's the Enterprise?"
"It's HIS ship!!"

"Oh my God! That's him!!"
"Who?"
"KIRK!!"

or something to that effect

LOL! I wouldn't include this, but I'm picturing teenage girls seeing Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc and screaming, pulling their hair and fainting the way girls did for Elvis.

A simple pat on the back and get on with the job would be enough.

From their superiors, that's all they'd ever get, believe me, I know. Whenever our ship did something good when I was in the Navy, our commanding admiral would just send a message to our Captain that read "Kudos" followed by the name of our ship. But they should get a bit more from the public who's lives and families they've saved, and more than likely will continue to save. I agree with Southern Spockette that it shouldn't be overdone, but it SHOULD be done.
