Yeah that and because just as Pike assigned Kirk to first officer within a few seconds Kirk obviously saw a lot of potential in Scotty and assigned him chief within seconds. Not to mention didn't the prior chief die when he didn't pull his shoot fast enough? < Poor guy

Lastly, I also believe that because this is an entirely different universe that "plot holes" are truly non-existant here.

Remember, Scotty has been in Starfleet for sometime, he's just been reassigned to Delta Vega for "losing Admiral Archers beagle". He has probally served on board other Starships Engineering Sections, and from the discussion he has with Kirk, he is already familiar with the Enterprise, and said he would "love to get his hands on those ample nacelles".

Well -

The warp problem is definitely due to the damage sustained when the wreckage of another ship hits the nacelle as they arrive at Vulcan.

I caught the tribble second time around - it's defo there, complete with TOS sound effect.

McCoy does call out to Nurse Chapel - but offscreen.

The time lapse between entering warp and arriving at Vulcan? It's definitely more than mere minutes. Kirk is given a sedative. We then cut to the bridge and then back to sickbay. When Kirk jumps up, McCoy says 'Ah, your awake', and has changed his clothes = time cut of unknown duration.

So they didn't get to Vulcan in just 5 minutes.

Can't recall what the other active ones are at the moment.

hmm .. but we are talking about supposed plot holes consistant with THIS timeline... even though it is an alternate reality.. there are constants in both... (prime spock and the narada and crew) that will and have affected both...And .. pike had a LOT of interest in kirk's carrer.. and while leaving the ship to possibly DIE he wanted the ship in the best possible hands... plus after the other qualified people "conveniently" die.. it is called a "field or "battle" commission.. after the battles or war or incidents are over.. there is a review to see if the rank will stick..(in this case it did..) (after being advanced to acting captain of course...)

Why does it take the Enterprise around 5 minutes to reach Vulcan from Earth, but it takes the Narada what feels like the better part of a day to reach Earth from Vulcan?
