I can't pick a favorite moment, there were so many good ones.

I do agree with Fan however that the opening sequence set up an operatic mythology for Kirk.

On an emotional note, I loved it when Robau says: "You're captain now, Mr. Kirk." and we see the very reluctant, yet determined look of George Kirk.

All of Leonard Nimoy's scenes were AMAZING!!!

Favorite moments though, one would have to be when we see Kirk step onto the bridge in that Command Division Gold for the first time and all the members of the crew are at their posts, and Spock takes his place as first officer, which is then followed by Nimoy's "Space, the final frontier" moment!

AMAZING!!

I know I'm going to accrue a lot of flack for this but... The kiss (embrace?) in the transporter. Because:

Kirk was still jealous even having obtained the captaincy and still attempting to find out Uhura's first name... Spock just got something he'll never have
Spock got in contact with the positive side of having emotions.
Spock and Uhura are darn sexy together!!!

I'm biased, but since I just saw the flick today and finally can come back to the forum, I am going with Chris Pike at the end.

I was fearful he would be "Menageried" so to speak. He has a heckuva role in this movie and still has his facualties about him.

I was VERY impressed with the hand phasers and how powerful they sounded! There were lots of other nice scenes and the young Spock was very convincing.

Clariana, you won't get any flak from me- the Spock/Uhura romance is a great twist. I think it works very well in showing the change in Spock- from 'conflicted' and hesitant to accepting of his human side.

There's so many great scenes. George Kirk's final moments- that had be tearing up, I have to admit.

So many wonderful scenes. How about when E dropped out of warp at Vulcan?

I'm with you on this one! During the attack on the Kelvin when it cuts to the corridor and that female crew member is screaming and clambering to get to safety. Then she is suddenly pulled out into space and it all goes silent. My god I've never seen and/or felt such emotion from such a short scene. I was sold right then and there! Somehow in that moment I just knew this movie was going to be wonderful and I finally took a deep breath, sat back, relaxed and just enjoyed the ride.

That was a great scene, and such a tongue in cheek moment to cap it off with.

Spock telling the Vulcan Science Academy what it can go do with itself.

And I didn't have a problem with his relationship with Uhura, either. This is a different Spock - this one didn't have years and years of alienation from his father, who was mad at him over the Science Academy rejection; therefore this Spock didn't have years and years of trying to make himself more Vulcan to appease that same father. And now, this Spock actually has an admission that his father really loved his mother, something Spock Prime NEVER had.
