You know what? I actually liked that. I don't enjoy the whumping of characters I love or at the very least care for but in this case, it brought Kirk down a notch and it made things a lot more real. He's not a superhero, he wasn't even a hero yet at this point and he didn't have any real experience in the field. I sincerely doubt that combat training at the Academy had truly prepared him for everything he went through during this movie. Give the guy a break...
