The fact that Nimoy reprised his role of Spock. He had several chances to do so, most notably on Generations. The fact that he gave his stamp of approval by appearing in the moview should say volumes.

I've seen it twice, and both times spontanious applause broke out in the theatre at his first appearance.

Nimoy was great - he seems totally comfortable in the roll again.
I think he recognized the scale of the new movie and that it was possibly the first time star trek had a shot at the mainstream audience. Boy he was right! Excellent film.

When we watched, once Nimoy showed up on screen, one of our friends asked me and one of the others, "is that Spock's father...he looks different". My friend and I were bothing grinning ear to ear at that stage, looked at her and said, "no no no...that's SPOCK!!!" We were both geeking out quite badly. It was an awesome moment.

I think there was just one reason for Nimoy to be in the movie: Because Shatner was not.

At the same time, it was a little sad. Like the last member of the old crew to play their old role, leaving the bridge and turning the lights off on his way out. I got a little choked up at that last scene between Nimoy and Quinto.

I can see the sadness there. I doubt he will reprise the role again. Ah, but to see him as Spock one last time..... amazing.
