Magnum, your personal opinions on the franchise's future aside, what evidence do you have that Paramount is shutting down fanmade films?
If anything, we could see a surge in fanmade material both supporting the new film and continuing on with the TOS-only fan productions. I think I see the point you're trying to make, politically speaking, but in terms of the real world, where is this Paramount 'gestapo' you fear barging in to arrest fans with vidcams? As long as no trademark violations are committed, I don't see Paramount has any legal right or power to stop fans from making fan films. There are years of evidence that Paramount will support or at least not interfere with (tolerate?) fan productions which don't break any copyright laws.

Oh, okay. I guess I just didn't see any reason for the concern.
I hope a lack of evidence that fan films will end eases your concerns, and with any luck a new crop will arise this summer (of TOS incarnations as well). If so, enjoy!
