Possibly also - a limited edition, or an edition with a different cover that some retailers will sell (but which will be a match for the standard 2 disc), or the version sold by the retailer that will come with an extra (a keyring etc, but will again be the standard 2 disc).

What choice!!
What, no director's cut? I was really hoping for that.

I don't think they have material for one. Abrams said that due to the strike they filmed the script as written. Which didn't leave much room for alternate takes and rewrites.

I don't know a DC could be significantly different.

That's only based on an interview around the time though.

I think the old rule of thumb about there being a six month window between the theatrical release of a film and the DVD release has changed somewhat.

I believe in the last couple of years there have been quite a few films that were very successful at the box office and had DVD releases closer to four months later rather than six.

I am guesing a late September to mid October DVD release.

More often than not, a "Director's Cut" often simply means a longer version of the film, incorporating scenes/shots which were edited out due to time. Though now home entertainment divisions tend to call these "Extended" or "Unrated" versions, as a true "Director's Cut" should really be assembled by the director as their preferred cut of the film, not merely a longer version of it.

No doubt there would be plenty of such deleted scenes and extra footage shot by Abrams which simply had to go to reach a desired runtime for theatrical release. So far I've heard of no such difficulties in obtaining the final cut which would prompt Abrams to release his own DC of the film as the version he "didn't" get to release theatrically.
