Why, when i upload some GIF Avatars, do they not animate. Eliza's work fine, but when i upload from somewhere ese, they don't work.

size constraints would be my guess... the forum software resized them either in dimensions or by decreasing quality or removing the extra animation frames, causing them to stop working. btw hows mine look?

oh, no thought to the idea I might just rock?

so sad....

but I tend to agree. I ran into the "too big" problem early on so all avatars after that were carefully kept under the limit.

My avatars are sized exactly to display size on this board, so there is no "shrinking" by any other source. That right there is probably the issue. Avatars done for general release are probably bigger because a lot of boards allow a bigger Avatar. That means your avatar is being "forced" to fit the constraints of the board and who knows what the repercussions of that could be....

But, Josh...as you have GIMP, I quite sure you can resize your avatars to the display size of this board.

I came across a weird problem recently involving uploading avatars to a forum. The name of the avatar was causing it not to animate. A poster had a static avatar called 320x240.jpg (apparently that was the original size of the image until he resized it for his avatar - why he named it that way is beyond me - maybe that was actually the name of the original image). I animated it for him and named it 320x240.gif. He uploaded it and it wouldn't run. Once it was renamed to pulse.gif it worked fine.

This is it by the way -
