The one serious violation is the destruction of planet Vulcan. Yes, Vulcan is destroyed. The planet no longer exists in the Abramsverse. This one event completely and forever changes every event of every episode and every movie ever made in the Star Trek universe. Also, as an added bonus, Spock's mother Amanda dies. They killed Spock's mama! That's just plain wrong.

I know that it doesn't matter since this is an alternate universe. But that event was just not necessary. It was simply JJ Abrams' way of telling us fans, once and for all, that this is no longer "our" Star Trek. It's his. And he will do whatever the heck he darn well peases with it, regardless of the damage it does to the existing history of Star Trek as we know it. When he said he wasn't making this movie for Trek fans, he was serious.

Ok, I have heard that as a theory. Not as a fact. Can you provide a link to the clip/interview/review that verifies these events? However, I still intend to see how it plays out in the actual film before reaching a definite final conclusion over what Abrams has done.

I've had that attitude from the start - I'm not changing it now.

However I'm curious - we know from Countdown that the planet Romulus is destroyed before Nero comes back and that doesn't get reversed - which appears to be confirmed as taking place in the 'real' universe. That not an issue either? Romulus is gone in the 'real' timeline, Vulcan in the 'altered'. Sounds like even.

The more I think on it, the more it fits with the increasing feeling I have that Kirk is not who Nero is particularly after. He's an aside. This is about Spock and Nero blaming him for the destruction of Romulus. It fits that as revenge Nero would destroy Spock's planet. It's a massive event, but it may fit the storyline for the film.

Plus it gives the new timeline a damn good shake up.
