I definitely think that the sequel would have to be a traditional narrative and go in a more LOST-like direction, were it to be made.

Yeah, I think a lot of people were put off by the ending and lack of explanations.

I loved the movie. I loved the ending (the lack of explanations is a little like reality IMO). And I'd loved to see a sequel if done well. I think Abrams said he'd like to do one but would not want it to be a mere retread.

He has said that one idea for a sequal is based on the scene on the Brooklyn bridge when the guy with the camera gets a shot of another guy with a camera looking back at him. So, that other camera could be the sequal.

Yep, that was what I'd read as well.

I agree. I personally enjoyed it, but there are "regular joes" that did not.

Well, they did say that the CLOVERFIELD monster was something akin to an infant torn away from its home. Seems there is plenty of story material or mythology to explore in an expanded story -- not unlike how Cameron took a step further in ALIENS from the original. Not necessarily more monsters, but by raising the storytelling stakes to explore where these monsters come from and why.
I doubt they'd go for the cinema verite-style film style since that fit the specific story of the original film. But there's a ton of backstory with Tagruato and such which could yield new dramatic material.
