When the writer's strike happened, most Hollywood productions are now months behind. I seem to be one of a few on this site that wasn't suprised by it.

May 8, 2009 is the new release date. Something was discussed about this in another forum. It was mentioned that May 8 is the day that the United Federation of Planets will be founded in the future. Paramount also thinks that the movie will be pretty successful and that it can compete with blockbuster movies such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine (comes out the week before Trek) and Angels & Demons (comes out the week after Trek). It may be good that the pushed it back becaus they can refine the script a little better and it will look more fine-tuned. A bad thing about it being pushed back is that it will still be finished by December and it leaves it open for pirates to get a hold of the film.

Despite all the negative vibes of it being delayed an extra 5 months, there appears to be nothing wrong with the script/filming and the extra time can have its advantages
