Well my mother in law asked if she could have the baby for a while(as in stay with her) in Mexico . I said no, my child go only with me! She said I was being selfish. Not only does she live in another contry, I was not brought up to let my child out of my site if possible. Man she got me so angrey

I really don't think you're being selfish. It's an issue with trust when it comes to letting your baby go with someone else to another country. And you have that right. This isn't, "Hey, I live on the west side of town, and I'd like to watch the baby for a while." No, this is, "Hey, I'm in Mexico right now, how about the baby stay with me for a while." I wish your mother in law would see how big a step that is, and one you should have a right to refuse.

As parent, your responsibility is to your child, not to your mother in law. This may be the first time you are tested as a parent but it won't be the last. Trust your instincts. If you feel that this is a bad idea or unsafe in any way, tell her that you don't feel comfortable with this. Having her angry at you is nothing compared to having something bad happen to you child.

I would never let my child go out of country without me...ever. Relative or not that is too much to ask of any parent...You should ask your mother in law if she would have done that with any of her children? Lob that ball back at her. If she is angry that is fine and her own problem. One she will have to get over and find a way to compromise with you on.

If anyone is selfish it is your mother in-law, so don't let her annoy you.

That mama asked if she could watch the baby in her country for a while is not a bad question, as long as it is not a loaded question.

It would seem in this case that it was. Her full intention was pretty much "I won't take NO for an answer." When she got that NO, she decided to go on her campaign to make you look like a bad person. So frack her!

You did the right thing.

thanks, guys. As for asking her the same thing. she let her children go with her mom in Mexico months at a time. So she assumes it is ok. In my book it will never be ok. Culture diffrent I don't know, but I think that is just plain irresponsible.

She was out of line and you are well within your rights. That she called you selfish means that she has an incorrect perspective of what her rights are.

I hope you will get an opportunity to explain that it's not disrespect of her that made you refuse, but that you have your own perspective on this, and that you want her to respect your rights about your own baby. She may not listen, preferring to be selfish and offended at not having her way, but you can pray she will listen to reason.
