I was refering to this DS9 uniform version, introduced in DS9 and if memory serves worn throughout all of VOY, as they did not get the "FC-update" in the Delta Quadrant:

It seems to me if you compare the Captain's jacket with the DS9- and the FC-style versions that grey becomes increasingly more important.

You have cleared it up nicely now! I do see what you mean by the grey becoming more important, and even moreso if you include Picards undershirt.

Ironically, the "gray" on both the early DS9/VOY uniforms and the FC uniforms is actually purple. But in a case of history kind of repeating itself with the original TOS green shirts, it looks different in the final color mix.
