I don't care if someone's A-List or B-List, if they can do the part the best, that's who should have the part.
Besides, Abrams wants that curious "moviegoer off the street" to want to see his movie, imagine a public thinking "Hmm, Mark Wahlberg as Captain Kirk...maybe Star Trek isn't so nerdy after all"...if his being in it puts fannys in movie seats and makes money, isn't that what Paramount wants most? Remember, the studio doesn't want what we want from Star Trek, Paramount wants to make money. Plain and simple. Don't forget movie star Genvieve Bujold was the original Captain Janeway on Voyager...and Lloyd Bridges, who was already a tv star at the time, was one of those in consideration for the part of Captain Kirk back in the day. I wasn't saying anything about STXI being targeted at CHiPS fans... ![]()

oh i was just teasing about the CHiPs thing being before my time(it was an age joke i suppose, but not a very good one.. sorry)
I guess i just think of it on less of whos best for the part and whats best for the plot/film quality/cannon Youre right, A-Lists will help boost the numbers, but it wont hold true to what star trek is all about, yeah. it probably doesnt matters much at all to the stockholders. |

I think Chris Pine looks a lot like shatner. Personaly i don't like Wahlberg in most movies that i see him in but i do think if they were after someone a little older he would have been perfect as Kirk.
Gary Sinise as McCoy - very good call. |

Sinese was the st.com favorite to play McCoy, along with Ray Liotta as Christopher Pike.
And remember RAR, "cannon" are large projectile weapons, "Canon" is a term used for Star Trek history and continuity. ![]()

Both Sinise and Macy would have been great for McCoy (especially Sinise) but they're both too old for the period represented in the movie. I also think that Ray Liotta would have been great for Pike, if only for the physical resemblance. And I'm still terribly miffed that Paul McGillion didn't get the role of Scotty...

James McAvoy as Dr. McCoy. I know he's a science fiction fan. He did Children of Dune... and he speaks techno bable. He is a very diverse actor. He can pull off American accents like many UK actors can. He's getting more and more famous now but he's still not quite up their yet even if he is working with Angelina Jolie in Wanted. He has a boyish witty charm, watch any interview he's done. It sure worked on me!!! He's fabulous in the BBC remake of Macbeth, he's intense.
