I'm thinking they were both made around the same time. Both were released/aired in late 91.

Here's a question, Sarek suffered from Bendi Syndrome....what if Spock is also afflicted, but the fact that he is half human let's him cope better with it's effects.
The reason I say this is because Spock, to me at least, seemed very saddened in the trailer sequence. I always assumed that this was because Spock was saying good bye to his dear friend, a good bye he was unable to make before the ENT-B incident, but what if there is something more meant to be implied by the scene. Darnit...get me my Deloran, I'm going to go see the movie...

Huh, that's interesting - TUC was released in December 1991 but Unification aired November 1991. Following on from the story I would have thought the reverse would have flowed better.

So although the movie was released a bit later, production of it was probaby earlier than that of the Unification? Which raises the question of whether the folks who wrote Unification got to read the script of TUC before they did their work. Spock's line is easy to miss, but I think that it would be a highly unlikely coincidence that the TNG folks just wrote something for Spock and his behaviour fits perfectly with that one line.

They must have had access to the script for TUC in order to write the Unification teleplay. They would have known the proximity and would have planned around it.

Good point. You don't write the hitherto (internally chronogically) last appearance of Spock if you don't know anything about his second-last.

I'm still not convinced the pilot episode is completely canon. That would give me reason to throw out emotional Spock. But I think all of those event were reconsidered in other episodes by reference. Still...Spocks emotional behavior doesn't have to be included. Consider how JJ would view. Mr. "I'm not a trekkie" is likely onlly to consider Spock's logical depiction through out the rest of trek history. I think many of you are going to be surprised that what you expect to be there because of 'canon' is not going to be there because JJ will no want to go into that kind of detail if it goes against his plot and movie theme. Then again...we see Spock attacking Kirk....so who knows. But my gutt is Spock won't be emotional because no one knows him that way other than fans.

He was quite emotional in Where No Man Has Gone Before and Mudd's Women.
But, the writers most likely threw out most of The Cage anyway.

The line in the trailer from Sarek about Spock having to choose his place would seem to indicate there will be coverage of the fact that Spock has two sides influencing him in his youth.
I think Abrams will take into consideration the emotional Spock.
