Hey guys, got something to throw out at you to have fun with. This does NOT confirm or deny anything, but read into what you will.

VORUS: ‘All told, I’m simply a concerned long-time fan who just wanted to see a good origin story, and is a little bummed out that it’s just another pointless alternate universe.’

Orci: Understand your concern. Hopefully you won’t think it pointless at the end.

Oh also, I'm just throwing this out there. Same link as above, post #29:

25. Blake Powers - December 28, 2008
“My question with the alternate universes and spawning the new universes. If the all actions spawn a new universe, then why would spock care to go back in time??? Wouldn’t it have to affect his timeline for him to care? (In no way am i talking bad about anyway that it has been written, just posing a question as a member of “the devoted”; also I understand that posing this question will have alot of people on the interwebs going ” he’s an idiot”).

Orci: No on should call you an idiot. It is a logical question with 3 possible answers. Either 1. We have ignored the contradiction. 2. Spock is not aware of the LATEST AND GREATEST THEORY OF SCIENCE! or 3. The plot is not what you think!

So wait... is Orci stating as plainly as possible that fans don't understand this film's plot yet, but they're making uninformed conclusions based on incomplete information?

Not that some will believe him even when he answers the question directly.

There'd especially be no point in having history 'reset' at film's end, so that no-one remembers what happened and none of the events actually took place.

Maybe the original Constitution design will show up on a schematic, or some artwork inside Starfleet headquarters - but the ship herself isn't going to have a Sailor Moon transformation sequence where she turns into the forty-year-old design from the Original Series. It's about as likely as the 'timeline getting reset' and giving all the characters the same faces and the same cheap uniforms as the original cast. It might placate one or two tragic figures in the audience, but for everyone else it'd just be a serious case of the WTFs.
Haha, too true.

Also, that alternate Tasha had a child in the regular TNG universe. So, I guess what I'm saying is that Orci's comments could be taken in the context of that even if the basic events and history are restored, there can still be changes to the timeline, even if the big changes are fixed...all the minor changes will add up.
i think Guinan race may perceive time differantly. it is a powerfull race that even q seemed to fear.

I must agree. Clearly, we are not as informed as we would like to believe we are. Abrams, Orci & Kurtzman obviously still have some surprises up their sleeves, and I would expect nothing less from them.

Orci has no idea about science (it's not just physics!!!)
The mirror universe also continues to exist, why shouldn't this alternate timeline also continue?

Right, that's the reason why his screaming about the "LATEST AND GREATEST THEORY OF SCIENCE!" is a blatant insult to all the other great theories of science.
