Default An expanded star trek film

I don't know why the studios haven't figured out how to make more money with expanded films such as lord of the rings. Peter Jackson added 20 to 45 minutes back to each of those films and I couldn't sit still waiting for those dvds to be released. J.J. could make these films so much richer in character delevopment and enhance everyones experience by releasing an extended edition and maintain longer general audience buzz and generate more money and interest in a second film.

I would watch an extended edition. I'm always interested in a little more footage.

I think expanded is great.
In the original series, you had Kirk, Spock and McCoy as the main characters, but little from the rest of the gang. It is a great crew, and an expanded film could give more air time to the other characters.

And not just standing around looking for nuclear vessels.

Oh, I get it now.

Star Trek: Part Deux comes out in May.

Star Trek: Part Deux "The Director's Cut" comes out six months later, just before Christmas. All the Trekkies go nuts.

Paramount is Evil.

Yes, they are. They know where it hurts most.

I would buy the extended versions.

I'm not sure if you mean for Abrams to make a longer-runtime movie, or offer and extended version on DVD after its theatrical run?

If you mean 'make a longer movie' for theaters, then there's a very simple reason why studios haven't "figured out how to make more money" on them: the longer the movie, the fewer times per day theaters can show it. The less times the movie screens in any time frame (days, weeks, months), the less money it can make. A long movie has to play in theaters perhaps weeks longer to make the same amount of money that a shorter film can earn.

Nothing to do with marketing or promotion, it's the simple math of different run time vs. the same ticket prices.

I would totally be up for an extended edition dvd. I still don't know when the next movie will come out, based on the success of the upcoming film?
