Nolan actually shot six (I think) sequences with IMAX cameras, including the opening robbery sequence and others. TDK's bonus feature documentaries go into great detail about the troubles they encountered using the much bigger, heavier cameras, and that they ran more than one camera for extended takes since the film magazines were comparatively short.

As one feature points out: the started with five such cameras existing in the world, but now there are only four -- they accidentally destroyed one in the chase sequence when the arm got between two cars which collided! Oops.
