Until I saw the trailer, I was wondering if Ryder was going to be a good choice for Amanda, but now, it looks like she will be fine in the roll. Ben Cross was a great choice for Sarek IMHO

I don't know how much she has to do in the film, but the brief glimpses in the trailer she certainly looks fine.

Only thing is because she has that long dark hair in the clip with Sarek, I always think of Bram Stoker's Dracula for some reason! It's getting in the way of the fact she plays Amanda!

I keep expecting Adam Sandler to pop up as Mr. Deeds...

Remember that when we see Amanda with the black hair, she is very young and giving birth. The next time we see her she is escaping with their lives, she has a hood on her head.

Here's one of the other places I'm a little critical of the film. Ryder? She's become a bit of a joke off screen. Now I'm usually one to say I don't care about offscreen behavior it's only their onscreen stuff I care about. Get the job done. But with this movie, I think it might be just a bad move. Scifi lovers typically have bad attitudes toward idiot celebrities. Or celebs they think are idiots. For many scifi fans, Shia alone ruined the entire Transformers film followed by Indiana Jones 4. This is why some scifi/fantasy directors try to hire people that aren't high on the celeb platform.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Tom Cruise was great in "Last Samurai" and "War of the Worlds". Jump on all the couches you want offscreen. Just get the job done. Ryder may be great in this part.

Well, plenty of celebs have troubles in their real life, but most of Ryder's was several years ago now. Look at Robert Downey Jnr. From written off a few years back to anchoring one of the biggest hits of the year. As long as her perfomance works then I'm fine with her.

Yeah you're not jokin either brother.

I used to hate Downey Jr. He was a coke head and a loser.

Now...I think he's amazing...the man has done a complete turn around. I mean Iron Man was great...but he sealed the deal for me in Tropic Thunder.

So did Tom Cruise. He was HILARIOUS. He can act a fool all he wants...as long as he does more comedy and doesn't push Xenu on me we're cool.

Ben Cross also played the vampire Barnabas Collins on the short lived TV Series remake of "Dark Shadows" in the early 90's and also played Captain Nemo in a TV Mini-Series version of 20,ooo "Leagues Under The Sea" in the mid 90's. I think he is a good choice for Sarek and hope this gives him more screen work.

I think he is in the same league as Jeremy Irons and just needs the right roles to excel. Yeah he has acted cheesy and over the top in some roles he's chosen but remember Jeremy Irons in the D&D movie and then think of him in the recent "Appaloosa".
