If he didn't mean it that way, fine. It won't stop me from seeing the film, enjoying it, and if it's good, congratulating him on a job well done. I'll digress and simply say that his words could have been more carefully chosen. When I first heard it, I felt a little like Kirk did in "The Ultimate Computer", When he was called "Captain Dunsel". If it was not Abrams intention to make us feel obsolete, or like we no longer serve a useful purpose, then I'm good. Let's go forward, ahead warp factor (instert number from 1-9 here.).
p.s.: He may have even meant that those who see this film, regardless of whether they're new fans or old, will "be" the future fans of Star Trek. That would actually be really positive and cool as well. If that's what he meant, I just wish he had said it that way.
