Default Playmates and the Future of Star Trek Toys.

First, I must say, I'm a huge collector of Star Trek Toys from Playmates. Does anyone think that if the movie and the toy line do real well, that they'll start reproducing their old toy line from TNG, TOS, TOS movies, DS9, and Voyager in the new scale of 3 3/4 inch figures? Now that technology has come along, they can probably make all the characters in their likeness cheaper than they did back in the 90's. Let me hear your thoughts. I know its way to early to predict, I just though it is a possiblity.

I was just thrilled to walk into a Toys r Us the other day and actually SEE some Star Trek toys. They had a Kirk and Spock figure from the Wrath of Khan. I think they were by Diamond Select. It was years since I had seen anything Star Trek in a Toys r Us store.

The way it's set up is that Playmates has the rights to do action figures and other toys based on Star Trek XI.
Art Asylum--or rather, Diamond Select--has the rights to do toys based on everything else. They'll still be producing toys based on the TV shows and the previous ten movies for the forseeable future. Whether or not they'll go the 3.75-inch line is kinda doubtful, IMO, since they've seem to favor bigger-sized figures for better detail, articulation, and likenesses...

I wish they would get the rights back.

I prefer Art Asylum, but as stated earlier - w/ manufacturing tech like it is today - Playmates'll do fine for me.
