Having done a quick Google, it would appear people are using the term Warbird as a generic term for a battle ship.

Coupled with the fact the one mention of a Warbird in a series that i can find, has been discounted...

Ambassador Soval's assistant mentioned "Klingon Warbirds" in ENT: "Broken Bow". Even Brannon Braga conceded that this was a clear error, so we shouldn't assume that a so called class actually existed. Even Vulcans may make embarrassing errors. He definitely meant to say "Birds-of-Prey".

It is sounding like "Klingon Warbirds" is the term of choice for the new movie based on descripts of what Kirk says in the new movie. All things given, they will be a redesign and a new type of ship in Abramsverse. Therefore, there shouldn't be a problem. A new ship to collect in the Playmates line probably.
