I tend to agree, I see no point in boycotting something you (you as in a general term for a person, not you specifically) haven't seen, because you don't fully understand it until you do. However, some feel differently and have expressed as much. If they wish to do so, I simply say - let them.

What exactly does "boycott" entail?

I'll be skipping the movie because based on what I've seen so far, I don't think I'll like it.

Similarly, based on what I know about the movie "The Duchess" I'll be skipping that. Does that mean I'm "boycotting" that movie as well?

Boycott here means joining a group of people claiming that they won't go see the movie no matter what (which is ludicrous, but whatever).

Boycott usually means you are actively encouraging others not to do something or buy some commodity.
