I don't think those fans will be the demise of Star Trek. I think they will simply be left behind. Star Trek will move forward, as will most of us fans, along with some new fans. The rest will be left behind, claiming Star Trek isn't Star Trek anymore and missing out on some wonderful new Trek adventures. Or they will get a taste, such as MonsieurHood, and they will realize they were wrong and climb aboard.
