The first one...Encounter at Farpoint...when it was first aired. (noting that I was a gainfully employed adult at the time)

What did you think of it, when you saw it? First impressions. I grew up on TNG so didn't have the experience of coming into a new generation of Trek. What did you think of the Next Gen when you first saw it, Eliza?

I was also an adult and saw it from the beginning. I thought it took itself a little too seriously. I wasn't crazy about the casting, or the story, or the uniforms. The SFX were pretty impressive for the time. But hey, it was Trek, and it was gonna be new every week. Worth staying up late on a Sunday night for even if it sucked.

Maybe that was a slight advantage over first viewing TNG as an 11 year old who didn't have a great deal of TOS knowledge at that time (though I had seen the films made up til then), because I remember loving it from the outset. Perhaps if I had had the memory of the original episodes I wouldn't have thought that so quickly.

My first episode i think i saw (that I can remember) was the Nth Degree, the one where Barclay becomes super smart and controls the computer with his mind. When i saw that, it automatically got me hooked to Star Trek

Where I lived, at the time the series began, The local affiliate station showed the first episode "Encounter At Farpoint", both parts, and then never showed another. Which angered me to no end. I ended up watching the rest of it years later on VHS tapes I bought, and in syndication. I enjoyed most of the series after it had already ceased production. But I enjoyed it immensely and still hold it in high regard second only to TOS. Voyager is third on my list, then Enterprise, and lastly Deep Space Nine, which I didn't particularly enjoy, with the exception of a few really stand-out episodes. But Star Trek: The Next Generation is a worthy successor to it's namesake, and a marvellously entertaining series in it's own right, and on it's own terms.

I was definitely primed for the Encounter@FarPt Premiere, although it wasn't one of my faves. But while I was a TOS Loyalist - a new Roddenberry ST was good enough for me.
I loved 'Where No One Has Gone Before', which bought me in.
