Fan service? You mean the few lines that we all expected to hear? The "damn it Jim I'm a doctor..." and the "I'm given 'er all she's got C'ptain!" ?? Isn't everything else simply trying to resemble the characters? If they wanted to "service" the fans they shouldn't have changed every damn thing, then these minor cookies would NOT have been obvious. I will admit they were the few things I felt were "trekky" about the the film.

I think it's quite easy to explain - Spock was working towards reunification for a very long time.

So perhaps he was on a mission to Romulus in the wake of Khitomer that would have taken a while to complete. And that's why he wasn't in Generations.

(Apart from the fact Nimoy wasn't lured because he had nothing to do in it).

Anyway - they had the brains to dump Shatner. Wise move.

Shatner could be in furture films since the timeline has changed, I guess. I have no desire at all to see him again, to tell you the truth. I've been pretty disappointed in his reaction to the movie. His lack of support, his whining on-line, his snubbing the premier. Right now, Chris Pine is Captain Kirk to me.

It's been suggested, by Nimoy I think, that Shat was having a bit of fun with the media. He's not above that sort of thing, you know.
