Wasn´t he offered a cameo already and turned it down because Nimoy has a much larger role? I think i read something like that somewhere.
Anyway, with the writer strike there is no way to write him in. Fortunately.

Yeah, thats right, I don't think JJ can make changes to the script by himself, so reguardless, it doesn't look like he's going to be in the film...

bringing shatner in would be corny and ridiculous. kirk is dead, and any cameo they put him in will just feel like they are trying to work too hard to add him and could ruin the film. if the story works just as well without him, then don't change a thing.

I agree .

Shat is kind of an arse anyway .

And it just wouldnt fit in IMO

Nimoy is a classy choice and was awesome in his TNG appearances , as a matter of fact his being in this film kind of vindicates it for me .

Shatner would've made me barf

I agree with this post. It just wouldn't seem right. Kirk died a brave and noble death in "Generations", and we should let him rest in peace in that time frame, with dignity. Starship Captain James T. Kirk is a legend, larger than life. Let his life, and his brave deeds speak for themselves. They are many, and enough of a legacy for a hundred brave men.

Yeah but everyone dies... This whole story could've taken place before his death... Granted, it would be kind of odd seeing him in the movie when you see him die... *shrugs*

He died on screen

It's funny how on one hand trek fans want cannon to be paramount (no pun intended) but are willing to let it slide when it suits them

I guess I never understood the term 'Canon'

Quote:
Canon, in the context of a fictional universe, comprises those novels, stories, films, etc., that are considered to be genuine or officially sanctioned, and those events, characters, settings, etc., that are considered to have existence within the fictional universe. In order for a setting to appear cohesive, especially in fictions that contain multiple parts, both creators and audiences sometimes find it useful to define what has and has not "actually happened" in that universe.

Material that is considered canon usually comes from the original source or author of the fictional universe, while (some) spin-offs and adaptations to other media are more likely to be non-canon and fan fiction is almost always non-canon.
Guess I understand sorta, but they could still do it before he dies :P How you get that point to the viewers, I don't know... I'm also not one of those crazed trek fans that want everything to be 100% and freak out about the button being blue and not red or the enterprise being built on earth and not in space... *shrugs* Just a TV show/Movie
