When asked what it was that brought him back to the Star Trek franchise, Nimoy explained that it was the high quality of the script, which has re-energized his inner Spock.
"I was very impressed with J.J Abrams and his writers. I think they're very good people, very talented. They know the ‘Star Trek' story and respect it and have written a very interesting script. Those elements together along with a bit of nostalgia and obviously being able to step back into character after something like 18 - years. I thought lets do this." (Discovered at TrekWeb.com)

It is always refreshing to see Nimoys excitement. I still somehow have a hard time separating his character from the man, so when he likes something, then it must be logical...right?
No in all seriousness I cant see him involved if he thought it was garbage, and him saying a "very interesting script" , just rings of something we havent seen before/ or in a very long time. I always enjoy your finds that you post and thanks again. |

It is great to know Mr. Nimoy has high thoughts of JJ Abram and his crew, so I feel confident it will be a great movie.

Nimoy made two of my favorite Trek movies, so I'm glad he supports the new movie so much he wants to play spock again

Thank you for posting these comments; it's refreshing to see a thread that doesn't say, "Oh, it's going to suck!" IMHO, there's not a Star Trek movie that does suck, not one; but, then, I'm prejudiced because I'm a huge fanboy, hehe.
Again, thank you. |

So, aside from have a quality script, do you think Nimoy took the role also based on the amount of screen time his character will have?

I was pleased to read his comments, too. My guess is that Nimoy signed up perhaps more because of the role Spock has in the film, less so how much screen time Nimoy actually gets. I think Nimoy is protective of Spock, and perhaps R&A's script serves the character well, so the originating actor was happy to give his blessing and participation in the film.
