This might of been asked already but i couldnt find anything on it.

Question is in the trailer when the young kirk is about to drive off the edge of the canyon do you think this is the canyon created by the xindi weapon from the Enterprise series ?

CANYON! If i hear one more word about canyon, I think I'm gonna flip out! I don't see why we have to keep to canyon! Canyon has just messed up Star Trek, I mean, look what it did to the Genesis planet. All that canyon just up and tore it apart! And Kirk in the new Star Trek, almost fell into one! I'm tellin' ya', canyon isn't good for Star Trek.

Frame grab attached: the sign is rather obscured by the dust but this was the best frame I could find. Highly enhanced contrast in attempt to clarify the letters.

The second word sure looks like "QUARRY" to me, given the motion blur. If it helps.

It's not a canyon, it's a quarry, a man-made mining pit.

Being a big ENT nerd, I think that would be a too large nod to ENT. You had to explain why there is a canyon through the entire US, and one would expect that it would be filled up again over the time of nearly a century.
Besides if I remember correctly that weapon cut through Floria and went more or less in a nort-south direction, so if Kirk steals a car in Iowa, this would not work.
