At the beginning of the second trailer:

2 Important Questions

1) How old was Kirk when he was driving the red car? He appears to be too young to be driving a car, unless of course, he physically aged slowly or etc.

2) Was he suicidal when he decided to drive the car over the cliff and into the canyon, but decided at the last moment to bail out?

He is probably just a little brat kid who stole the car.

It looks like he tried to stop and/or turn.

He was runnning from the cop. (it clearly says "POLICE" on the bike)

Hmm...I think he's just a rebel.

If you look closely...

Check out the license plate on the car as it goes over the edge. That looks like a face on the back plate. Dark hair on said pic...maybe he stole the car? Just a thought. Also, the top goes down between the open shot and the car chase. My money is on him stealing the car to go see a starship being built, and thus the importance of the motorcycle scene later. I'd do it. Have to be a long hault though, never heard of the Iowa staryards...

Also, what about Kodos the Executioner? Isn't Kirk supposed to be living on Tarsus IV when he's 13? That kid doesn't look too far off, maybe 9 or 10? So will we see that horror or will they just skip over that?

Good question. Maybe the masked "police officer" was a "Tarsan", not a human wearing a full mask for the heck of it.

First I thought the same for two reasons: First because Kirk spend his early childhood on Tarsus (as mentioned here) and second because the Cop looks so fascist and bad ***, its hard to imagine a world without scarcity, poverty and greed as earth would have a need for Cops looking that deterrent. I mean, imagine this guy rings your doorbell:

"Sir, I happend to realize you did miss to clear the snow from your part of the sidewalk. This exposes pedestrians to a considerable risk to slip."

The license plate says Iowa on it, so that would seem to imply he's not driving on another planet. Unless Dad shipped his Corvette there too.

here's my 2 cents

the most logical theory i can see is this: we know kirk is raised by an abusive uncle as well as his mother. apart from being abusive i think he's an antique car collector. now nobody likes being abused, so to teach his uncle a lesson i think kirk steals the car and drives it off a cliff on purpose. not being suicidal, he jumps out before it falls.

Don't count on it. So much history has been changed as it is. Many threads were spent wondering about Tarsus, Carol Marcus, Finnegan, Gary Mitchell, etc... but now all my hopes have been dashed after reading the scene footage that had been shown by JJ. I would count on Tarsus as much as I would Talosians.
