Thumbs up Star Trek VIII: First Contact!

I watched it for the first time last night.

I loved it. I give it a 5/5!

Its now my 2nd favorite Trek movie after TWOK.

The reason I like it so much is because its so much like TWOK. Its an even-numbered Trek movie, It mentions Moby Dick, it references back to an episode from a Star Trek series, and it has a great story.

I really enjoyed it.

This was the first Trek film I saw in theaters (I was 12 back then).

I like the fact that it referenced a TOS episode but had TNG bad guys...I think it did a great job of showing Star Trek as a whole entity, not just separate series (and I think it was much better than the somewhat forced merging of casts in Generations).

Agreed. A TNG movie that also had Zefram Cochrane from TOS, the Defiant from DS9 and the Doctor from VOY, and also (although it wasn't planned at the time) laid much of the groundwork for ENT. A great movie for the 30th Anniversary year, as it contained elements of the whole franchise, and really did a good job of blending the mythos.

I especially like the way Worf was handled in the movie, as it would've been easy to have him return to the Enterprise and just slot back into his old routine with his old TNG friends (as later happened with INS and NEM, IMO), but this was clearly the Worf of DS9, who was now on the command track and who had clearly learnt much from Sisko. His post-TNG character development was really taken into account, and his heated confrontation with Picard is particularly engaging.

It had alot of elements for fans, but had enough action/adventure/horror for non fans.

Ah, FIRST CONTACT...the greatest of the TNG films, and the second-highest rated Star Trek film in many a fan's list, mine own included.

This film had it all. The epitome of a Star Trek film, it took a villain who represented the polar opposite of the heroes' chief ideals, and added into the mix the idea that even the great diplomatic Captain Picard has his breaking points. The special effects are in my opinion the best ever seen before or since in a Star trek film (no, Insurrection and Nemesis had cheap effects, IMO) and the breathtaking musical score was the peak of Jerry Goldsmith's career. In every aspect, this film was Star Trek's last hurrah, and the enormous height it achieved has never been matched since. Such a pity, since the TNG crew certainly had so much potential, a potential which I think we all feel was wasted.

I hope that whatever happens next May, it will at the very least match the bar set by FIRST CONTACT, and with a bit of luck, pass it. Highly unlikely, but as Data would say "Theoretically, it is possible."

I agree. If this new movie is better than First Contact, I think Star Trek will be back in business.

First contact was good. Easy to rate it as the greatest of the tng films when the rest were bad films.
I think the only thing i didn't like was when the Borg Queen had been reduced to a piece of spine Picard snaps it too casually.

He had almost lost control in attacking the Borg earlier and though he had come to terms with some of his inner conflict that scene which at that time suggested the end of the Borg and the hands of Picard could have been much stronger i thought.

I agree, First Contact was great and really got my friends into Star Trek, if this film does sometime similar, I think Star Trek will be racing through the stars once more!
