Kewl...and it's just a traditional 2 or 3 minute trailer.
The whole "9 minute" thing announced in another thread has now been confirmed to be "the first nine minutes of the movie". ![]()

Ah, so that might mean a pre credits prologue like last time with the USS Kelvin.
I already forgot but isn't that the same idea as the opening sequence of The Dark Knight Rises being released as a taster earlier this year? Or was that The Dark Knight they did that with................I'm not sure now. Anyway, that gives them a good 6 month window pre release and The Hobbit is bound to be big, so they're smart to start with genre viewers and then expand out.

I was saying the same thing in the other thread, that I wouldn't have expected ST was high-profile enough to get its trailer spliced onto The Hobbit (as part of an actual deal between the two films, that is)... but that I'm also hardly in a position to complain with that now being the case. |

I never did see the LotR movie trilogy on the big screen...didn't interest me at the time, but I might make an exception for The Hobbit.

The Lord of the Rings pictures were the most anticipated movies for me. And (genre-wise) I have never seen anything as big as them since.
While it wouldn't necessarily surprise me to see a ST trailer at one of them (seems to me Fellowship screenings had their share of bloody SW Attack of the Clones trailers back in the day), I wouldn't have expected one as part of a partnership deal. I just would've assumed (even after ST09) that something based on Tolkien was too high-brow for the likes of ST, and that a ST trailer might as well be exclusively attached to first-week screenings of Lincoln. Yet even now it already seems silly to say that since we're clearly getting one. |

The other thing that really trips me out is all that multimedia surrounding the Rings movies. Video games and what-not. I still can't quite wrap my brain around it; "What would Tolkien think?"
