Hopefully our engineers are smart enough to build it without exhaust ports that essentially act as self destruct buttons.

Sadly, I think the prequels shot down the whole subcontractor issue. I mean, I guess the race were kinda subcontractors but then they were also conspirators with the Separatists. So, I guess that means we don't have to feel sympathy because probably it was an all inclusive maintenance contract they provided.
