Actually it's just a rumor, I've heard a ton of them, but supposedly a major character in the film (unknown who at this time) is going to kick the bucket.
Supposedly Abrams said something like "In this film, do not expect everyone to make it out alive" or something to that effect. My guess is that Old Spock dies, but again, this is pure conjecture. IMO, I'd be pissed if ANY of the good guys die, esp since TWOK, it'd just feel all wrong to see one guy die twice. And they had better not kill any main characters, either!

Again, just a rumor, but then again, isn't that the fun of it?

I seriously doubt anyone's going to die in this movie (other than redshirts). This movie is supposed to bring new life into Star Trek and make it fun again--and nothing will kill that than the death of a major character.

Besides, killing off Spock (or Kirk) again is just so unoriginal and I don't think Abrams is going to "pull a Berman."

It cant be anyone of the main characters. The only candidate is old Spock. And I think thats exactly what will happen. He will sacrifice his life for the young crew AND he will reveal that Kirk dies alone.

Did I destroy the surprise? Come on, I only state the very obvious. Or have you considered Anakin turning to Darth Vader a spoiler?

Spock dying in this movie after having revealed Kirks way of meeting his maker makes much sense from all perspectives. It could explain why Kirk is never really afraid of death, why he is so convinced of dying alone, why he knew that saving Spock in ST:III would be a risk worth to take, why he knew he would survive Rura Penthe and many many other unexplained things.

I dont think Spock will tell him he dies on Veridian III. Just something along the lines of: "You have a long and prosper life in front of you, before you will die alone in an sucessfull effort to save an entire civilization."

In that way Kirk can say "Oh my God" when dying as if he realizes "Damn, thats what Spock revealed to me back then. This is the time, this is the place and its allright."
