Default Double handed Vulcan Mind Meld

Just re-watched the undiscovered country and noted for the first time that Spock performs a double-handed mind meld to try and probe deeper into Valeris's mind.

To my knowledge this is the first instance of this technique prior to any of the other shows like TNG. Is that correct?

First time I ever saw it, I guess Spock really meant it that time... Even the "Vulcan Death Grip" only required one hand. Wow, that sounded wrong on a few levels, didn't it?
