So would I. The JJ phaser looks too much like a toy. This one looks like a serious piece of hardware by comparison.

True. But to me, the TOS phaser looks less toy-like than the JJ phaser, which looks like one of those chrome plated sparkly blaster toys you get for your kid for a buck at the dollar store.
