Maybe some answers to what happened here at stm.com and why the staff just up and left...and how it all ties in with the announcement last week of the impending rebirth of startrek.com.
The latest information is after I found out Funny Garbage (the web design company that has been linked to the new st.com since last year) was back in the game. From what I've heard, there was talk within CBS about reviving STARTREK.COM because of the success of STXI when the site and CBS were caught with their pants down because of some bean counters who led to Marc Wade and his group being "let go." They didn't want it to happen when STXII came out. They noticed a stark rise in sales of preexisting series and movie DVDs directly after STXI was released, but it took time for the wheels to start turning. There is still the animosity between Paramount and CBS which has grown even more since the release of STXI. This is why Paramount chose to start their own site, startrekmovie.com, which clearly states "ENTER THE OFFICIAL SITE" on the main WEB page. If you remember, startrekmovie.com was not started until just after the movie was announced. Paramount had counted on STARTREK.COM to be the "official" site for the movie and didn't even know CBS had dropped the ball. Have you wondered why no one appears to be "at home" at startrekmovie.com? CBS cried foul because Paramount even created the site. Note at the bottom of the startrekmovie.com main page it says: Quote:
Evidently, someone at National Amusements asked CBS why they were complaining about Paramount and startrekmovie.com when CBS had "let go" the startrek.com team and allowed the site to fall apart. THIS was when Funny Garbage started showing up. Paramount said they were going to keep their site going until CBS started taking care of startrek.com. Things were again put on the back burner by CBS and wasn't a high priority in the overall running of the network. Les Moonves is behaving very possessive and downright childish. Star Trek is his ball and he doesn't want anyone else playing with it. The problem is he just lets it sit in his toy box and doesn't do anything with it himself. Funny Garbage was not yet given an official contract when FG's Dan Willig started his The New STARTREK.COM thread as "stboardadmin." Funny Garbage is reworking STARTREK.COM - pretty much from scratch.

If it was a legal issue, this site would have been taken down.

May not be a "legal" issue per se, but a dispute between two branches of the same multi-headed monster.
But the fact stands, this place seemed to suddenly die when CBS started making noises about making st.com a living entity again.

I think what led to this board's decline is a mass exodus of people that all went to Janeway's board. The mods left in November shortly after the DVD/Blu Ray release. This site is merely here until the next movie comes out and then it will be gone, with a new board to take its place.
I filled out their little survey over there. Not sure what good it will do them, since I haven't been too active on ST.com in 4 or so years.

Who knows if they really used any input from that survey...the person who started that thread under the name "stboardadmin" was one of the people from Funny Garbage...he came back again a few months ago under a different user name, but posted once and did not return.
And why was that mass exodus here? As I understand it, because the mods left...and no new members could be added...so it all ties back.

I really think it's as simple as, this board was a promotional tool for the new film that has already served it's purpose.

If anything, this site will probably be idle for a year until they start up the hype machine for ST:XII...unless they use the "new" st.com for that.
