SO---no nomination in "Best Picture" category? Since they increased the number of nominations, I thought Star Trek had a good chance for a Best Picture nom!

It did have a good chance, but still...

Well, I'm thinking it doesn't stand much of a chance when it comes to visual effects against "Avatar" so let's hope it will win for sound editing and mixing...
It's funny because on Sunday I watched the featurette on the Blu-ray about how Ben Burtt went about creating some of the sounds and it was very, very interesting. He was using a lot of old school equipment dating back to the 70s, which I thought was rather surprising. Apparently, he wanted to recreate some of the sounds in TOS exactly as they were but he couldn't simply because not everything had been documented. I guess back then no one realized that those techniques could be used again some 40 years later...

I'm VERY disappointed. I can't believe that the animated "UP" was nominated for Best Picture. That should have gone to Star Trek!
I didn't expect ST to win Best Picture but it should at least have been nominated!! Obviously I won't be watching the Oscars!! |

Star Trek won a lot of awards for its TV shows (TNG still holds the record for the most emmy nominations and awards), but Star Trek never was big enough as a movie. Here you can see all Academy Award nominations Star Trek got: http://memory-alpha.org/de/wiki/Academy_Award

![]() It is a fine pretend-to-be-a-B-movie science fiction flick with a lot of action in it and a relevant main theme. Not that it matters for such technical categories as special effects. Anyway, who cares, the Academy Awards are just one of zillion irrelevant prizes. |
