I was more into Doctor Who
, The Six Million Dollar Man
, the original Battlestar Galactica
, and Buck Rogers
during the '70s. But Space: 1999
was also a favorite of mine and I still have a model of one of the Eagle spacetransporters on my desk today.

When you get passed this it is actually very intresting but more like fantasy.
Yeah, Space: 1999
did seem like it was acid-trippin' a lot in hindsight. The concept seemed cool when I was a kid, but I later realized how outlandish it was--the Moon being blasted out of Earth orbit from its dark side (without blowing apart or hitting Earth) and falling through a conveniently placed nearby wormhole into the deepest regions of space.
But as a kid, it was more about the cool visuals to me, which I think still hold up pretty well today. Visually, I think it was more akin to 2001: A Space Odyssey
in the sense that the ships and other models were pretty realistic-looking...
