I think it is time for some classic Shatner:
the shape of the ship is ship-shape.
The perspective of somebody who isn't obsessed with the details of the Enterprise (as he hasn't watched that much or any Trek) and merely sees that the basic pattern has been kept is as important as that of us fans who have seen the ship too often.
