Supposedly there's a quote circulating from Karl Urban that Benedict Cumberbatch is indeed Gary Mitchell in ST2013...
He said,
“[Cumberbatch is] awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary.”
