Oh, it's definitely canon that Ripley's daughter was turning 11 around the time of the first movie. My impression is that the DVD bios predate that (I think they're based on notes Scott had written up for the actors upon filming A L I E N) and I think the retroactive canon of the sequels overwrites them.
Four years though seems like a long time for Newt to age in hypsersleep. It wouldn't take that long for the alien to impregnate Ripley and start the fire. And once Ripley was impregnated, her stasis was interrupted.
It took Ripley 57 years of hypersleep for Sigourney Weaver to age 7 years, let's look at it that way.
