That was just in the books? I know I read it somewhere, but I guess I also assumed it to be on film. It just seemed like that to the trek crowd, McCoy's divorce had been common knowledge. I could swear though, that I'd heard something about that mentioned on film. Are you sure that subject wasn't addressed in "The Man Trap"? I can't remember for sure, but if memory serves, then I think that some mention of his marriage was made in that episode.
