I think we can guess that the registry keepers at the time knew they were going to hit 1,000. I was bugged by it originally, but it makes sense.

I was pretty much raised on it. I watched all the shows when they aired from mid-TNG on (skipping a few of VOY and ENT) and I've always had the movies in either VHS or DVD.
